I travelled to Birmingham to read poetry at Khembe’s Return to Your Roots Festival and found myself strutting the catwalk in a fabulous hand-painted kaftan. I think they call it crafting for your art.
It was surprising stressful backstage as I tried to remember my instructions about which way to turn, to remember to smile, show off the design, maintain eye contact with the audience the designer in case she needed me to do one more turn if any of the other models weren’t ready… but it was also great fun! Stay tuned as I will be sharing more of my spoken word and the occasional ‘wild card’ like this one!
